Winnica Silesian
granite · 10.5 ha · organic conversion
Region · Poland
Poland's mildest wine country, in the Oder valley around Wrocław. Granite in the Sudeten foothills, loess and sandy clay along the river, calcareous ground to the south-east; Pinot Noir and Chardonnay do best. The first Polish appellation application is for this region.
Soil profile
South-west of Wrocław the Sudeten foothills bring granite to the surface, thin and quick to drain; Riesling and Pinot Noir hold their acidity here. On the valley floor, sandy clay over loess gives rounder, earlier wines.
