The story

One grape, three hectares.

Moderna farms 3.1 hectares in Lower Silesia, all of it Pinot Noir. Most Polish estates plant several varieties to spread the risk of a cold year; this one has chosen a single grape and accepted the risk.

One grape means one chance a year. We prefer it that way.
The winemaker

Lower Silesia suits that choice better than most of Poland. It is the mildest region in the country, with oceanic influence from the west and a growing season of about 200 to 230 days. Pinot Noir is now the most-planted red grape in Poland, at about 100 hectares.

A few oak barrels stand in a minimal concrete cellar beneath a broad daylight window.

The vines are farmed by hand and picked in a single pass in late September. Fermentation is with native yeast in small open vats, and the wine spends ten months in used barrels. The result is a light, bright red to drink cool.
