The story
Devín was crossed at the Vine Research Centre in Bratislava in 1958, from Roter Traminer and Veltliner frührot, the early red Veltliner. It is a signature grape of Slovakia, and with Gewürztraminer and Pálava it belongs to the Traminer family on the road.
The Traminer parent gives it perfume: rose, honeyed spice, ripe pear, quince. The body is medium to full and the acidity moderate. It is usually made dry or off-dry, and the aromatics tend to carry a long way.
