The story

Cabernet Cortis was bred at Freiburg in 1982 by Norbert Becker, the breeder of Solaris, from Cabernet Sauvignon and Solaris itself. Its parentage reads like a bridge: a Bordeaux red on one side, Poland's most-planted white on the other. It is a PIWI red, and it is grown in Poland.

In the glass it leans towards its Cabernet parent: dark berries, a green-pepper note, firm tannin and more structure than most PIWI reds. Some growers give it time in oak.
